One Oclock the same day in company with John J. Moore, and that on Sunday the 8th Three Days afterward the body was discovered by the stench arising from the Body and by the presence of vultures and the advanced state of decomposition of the Body, stench, and other surroundings warranted the supposition that the death had occurred soon after she had left John J. Moore's.

[?] she was within one half mile of said house. The body was when discovered covered with Maggots and Flies had deposited their eggs not only on the parts of the Body that ws naked or exposed but also on various parts of clothing of the deceased, was lying on its back, flat on the ground, with arms and legs spread to tehri greatest extend, the clothes of upper portion of the body was particularly torn off. The lower extremities were nearly naked as high as the hips. under the left side of the corpse was a [?] Shawl, near the right hand was a black velvet hat, the Hat was dishevelled and lying loose around the Head and shoulders and blood had run and was dried ont he ground and leaves for the distance of Three and one half feet. The road near to which the body lay was Thirty Five yards distant, and is not a public Highway, but an unfrequented settlement road.

This advanced state of decomposition of the body [?] Post Mortem Examination not only impracticable but unnecessary. Hence there was only a casual examination made.

The autopsy was however commenced by an examination fo the Head. The scalp, which was covered with long luxuriant light auburn hair was found in normal condition.

The eyeballs had been torn from their sockets by the vultures, and with that single exception there was no sing of where they had been [?]

The lower extremities were found widely separated. The legs pressed apart as far as the muscles and bones would allow. Well defined marks of violence were found on the inside of the left thigh near the knee, as well as a considerable bruise on the knee of the right limb, as if great force had been brought into requisition to force the Thighs apart.

From the examination, observations, observations, position of the body and surroundings, I deduce the following conclusions:

The woman found was violated. That it required force, and that her slavery took considerable time between the commencement of the act and the finale of the same. Her bosom was evidently bared, whether she received the gunshot wound as not a single hole or break was in her garments corresponding with the gunshot wound. That she either lived long enough to button the top buttons of her outer garment and chemise or her slayer buttoned them up. That the gunshow wound was inflicted before her throat was cut as the wounds of the throat caused almost instantaneous death, hence the gunshot wound was not necessary to finish, that was the beginning of the drama. And be her name what it may, her adherence to her virtue cost her nothing less than her life. Further the murder of this poor defenceless woman has had but few equals in either savage or civilized life, and has never since Adam and Eve was driven from the Garden of Eden had a superior in diabolical crime. On the left cheek was an abrasion, but a slight one, and showed signs of ahving been made before death.

The neck revealed two incisions or wounds made by two well defined and separate strokes with a cutting instrument. The gash or incision on the right as well as that on the left side had commenced hear the center of the back of the neck, had passed forward and met near the apex of the submaxillary or under jaw bone. That on the right was however closer up to the bone than the left and was extended beyond the chin about one inch, [?] parallel with the gash on the left and thus leaving attached to the left side a string of skin about one inch long. The gash on the right was evidently cut first, and the person who inflicted the wound was in my opinion in front of the deceased, and the weapon was wielded with right hand.

The two strokes nearly severed the head from the body having cut fully four-fifths of the circumference fo the neck. Blood from this wound had run on the ground, which was nearly level, as before said about three and one half feet.

In the wound was myriads of maggots, which had burrowed under and eaten away the muscles, integuments, arteries and the fleshy substance of the neck, leaving nothing but the skin or cuticle and the superior portion of the spinal column or bones of the neck so that the depth of the wound could not be accurately determined, only by inference. The trachae (windpipe), aesophagus (swallow), the coritid arteries, jugular veins, great sympathetic, and other nerves must have been completely severed as there was no trace of them discovered in the wound.

The skin above the soft parts was left intact and it showed accurately the trace of the slayer's weapon.

The Chest was next examined. The Top buttons, two alone, of the outer garment were fastened. These I undone and noticed that the corset was not fastened up nor did it appear to have been fastened since the death of the body. The Chemise was buttoned at Top, but the body had swollen so much that the petticoat fastenings as well as the chemise was bursted at the waist as well as the outer garment or dress.

When the Chemise was unbuttoned and the chest laid bare it revealed two inches to the left of the right mammae or nipple a large hole; this hole or cavity gave to the practiced eye and touch unmistakable evidence of having been made by a Pistol or Gun Ball, or in other words, was a gunshot wound, made by a ball of 38/100 inch Calibre or probably larger. The Ball had entered the chest at an angle of about fifteen degrees, breaking on its entrance the 4th Rib, passing through the right lobe of the Lungs, and into back in the region and probably under the scapula, or right shoulder blade, thus passing nearly directly through the body, inflicting a dangerous and painful wound but one not necessarily fatal, as with that wound alone recovery although improbable was possible.

The body around the region of the stomach and abomen presented a normal appearance. The generative organs were next examined. The advanced state of decomposition barred all hope of forming any satisfactory opinion or conclusions as to whether an outrage had been committed....
