Thos Crisp sworn says That he lives in the Town of Laurens Laurens County. Saw a difficulty as he was going home. He saw Chriss Little and Darlington and another whose name was unfamiliar to Deponent sitting down Deponent stopped with them Chriss Little said they had no right to arrest Tom Potter for carrying concealed weapons, that any one that said Tom Potter had a concealed weapon told a damn Lie. About that time Mr Nelson came up and says if you Give me the damn lie I will nock [sic] you down. Cris rose up and Chriss said that it was a life and death case with his Knife and that it was a damn lie and made at Nelson with Knife. Nelson threw a brick or rock but missed Little and Little then run at Nelson with his Knife towards Harper Street. Nelson giving back Some thirty yards. Little following him with his Knife and that Nelson ran fast that Chriss was in three feet of him twice with his knife in a cutting Position. Mr Nelson drew his Pistol and Chriss turned and Nelson shot him... Nelson was Night Guard of the Town and acting Policeman at the time of the the difficulty... Little said when Deponent went to him that he would die for his principles...
