Harriet Miller sworn says I am the wife of Jno Miller I know Spencer Simpson saw him Saturday eve about 3 pm, he stoped [sic] in at my house stayed about 15 min. About 9 oclock at night he came back to my house I heard a noise and went out there and found him. I said what you doing here... He said he had something to tell me; it was to tell Jno. not to deal with anymore Liquor or he would get into trouble, I told him to hush I see somebody... Jno (my husband) run up on us, and struck me with his fist, then shot at Mr Simpson, I turned and run looked saw Simpson running, and Jno shot at him, then came back and Beat me. I went on into the house after a few min Jno came in and said he had killed Mr Simpson, he commenced cryinh and said what must I do, I told him if he had listened to me you would not have done it. Jno went off, and said he was going to move that man; when he came back he said he had taken Mr Simpson over the river, on top of the hill, I asked him how he got him there he said I took him in that Big basket...
