Perry Irby sworn Says I left home this morning about daylight went over to Mr Chappells for my mule to go to my ploughing, left family all up, and on coming back, just before I got to my house I heard the report of a gun and it sounded to me like it was in a house. I stoped my mule & listened, I never heard any alarm it seemed to me for about three or four minutes. I heard my wife scream, I threw my fodder down that I had for my mule and come on hast and after getting sight of house I saw my wife just ahead of me about half way from the lot of the house I hurried on & saw my little boy Crosby lying in the yard near the door saw that he was wounded but not dead I picked him up and carried him in the house I noticed a puddle of blood on the floor near foot of bed stand I put him on pallet on the floor about that time Henry Mingo stept in I asked him to go for the Doctor...My gun was a breach loader, left it sitting at the head of the bed...
