After Examining the Body by Dr. Turner & Dr. Martin, find no marks of violence, on the body. His neck was dislocatid. We then took the Evidence of Mrs Margret Brice, the wife of the Deseased, was Qualified[?] States that as respects Mr. J. G. Brice state of Mind. She had said[?] a great Change on him for Several Months, by fretting[?], and said he would come to want. that he left the house about 1/2 Hour by sun, and stated he was going over to Joes, a Shoe maker, she said Nothing of the Yarn that was used, the yarn was his own for the purpose of Making Bagg[?]. The 2 Wit. Mr. Arthe[?] Says that he saw Mr. Brice, several times, of Cale[?] and he appeared in good that he was called on this morning to make some Search for J. G. Brice as he was Missing and he went and the negros informed him that they had found him, his hat was at the Root of the Tree, near where he was Hanging on a limb of a tree, saw no sign of any other supposed marks, his Horse was hitched some 75 Yards distance, from where he was Hung. W. Aiken[?] 3 Wit. Mr. Marting[?] Esqr. being Qualified Stated he got to Mr. Brices About day Light, and the Body was all ready been found and as Mrs. Brice was anxious, to have the Body naught to the House and he consented, and acted accordingly. that he Believes that the deseased Came to his death by his Own Hands, he Stated he had Seen the Deseased the week previous to his death and he was or seemed to be much fretted. That he was present on Tuesday, When Ben Gladry & Robt[?] Haygood Came to and[?] his hands for [?] [?], and nearly all the men of Mr. Bucy left Mr. Gladry inform him that He would hold him responsibly. he must have two of the hand in Winston by the 20 at 10 Oclock, after they left Mr Brice Observed Something to this affect he would be better off if he had nothing, Seemed to be in great distress. [two of Brice's slaves testified that they went out "hunting" for Brice when they noticed he was missing and found him dead]
