As the convoy slowed I happened to look out and I saw somebody's head. I told the driver to stop. I thought somebody had hit him with a truck, got scared and tossed him in the woods. So I gets out, flags Private Martin. I thought maybe we could give him some aid or take him to the hospital. We got out and went over there, I cussed and said he had shot himself, so Martin said lets get the state troopers, but we got Smith first. Then he says for us not to touch anything until we get the State Troopers. . . . Q. State to the jury just how everything was arranged, how his body was lying, his service jacket, cap and glasses. A. His hat, glasses, and jacket was lying beside the tree in rotation. He was lying sprawled out. His trigger finger was ben and the chamber was still brought back. His left hand was on his pocket and his 45 was lying beside him. There was blood on his glasses, jacket, on the left side of his hat band, and a couple of spots on the ground . . .
