Wm C. Harris sworn- at about 3 oclock of the 20 [??] was brought down [??????] by civil authority & sentenced to be shot. To [?] of any part[?] feeling [???]. CH Giles[?] & [?] & decd came to witness & asked him to participate[?] in taking negro from Jail and [?] him. [????????] who had been [?] written by[?] a letter written her by negro ... Dr. John P. Thomas then swearing negro ought to be hung ... [?] insists that negro had not been tried ... He said all right. . . Bill. . . if when negro is tried they don't hang him they [?] him over to us ... Dr. J. P. Thomas angered [?] to give negro a trial & so [?] to Keenan who did not seem to appreciate his remarks or[?] interference ... Dr. Thos[?] [?] Bates[?] came in with an axe & went to door [????] into dungeon & pulled a pistol and cocked it & said I am going to [?] this negro out of here[?] Dr. Thomas ran up & interfered by catching hold of pistol. The pistol went off. W. can't say who shot the pistol. K. was standing by side of Bates[?] by same door with a six repeating rifle at shoulder arms ... W. thinks K. was drinking
