Grant Deas. never knew D[eceased] to have courses but once since Chirstmas. D complained every month in consequence of which has not had her courses since 8 months. had her courses on her before she went to Columbia. D. told him she had a miscarriage while in Columbia.

C. Carrina Taylor--Emma P. Clarkson told W[itness]. that she could give W. something that would kill W. husband in one night and that if W. would not tell this she would pay W. W. said she would not tell it.

Minny English. Saw Harriet English and she said she died so suddenly she must have been poisoned. next Sarah Deas said something must have been done to her she died so suddenly. Minnie said died very much luke Uncle Henry. saw Grant Deas talking to Emma Sunday evening after meeting broke.

Emma C. Clarkson. knows deceased. wrote Grant Deas a letter while Viny was in Columbia, and told him that she could lvoe him if he was not a married man, gave him a letter at her own door and week before that time he asked her to marry him. she replied "if you were not a married man I would marry you." whenever Grant came over to see her would complain about his wife.

Sarah Mortimer. knows deceased. saw Viny in her bed about 4 oclock P.M. Viny called her and she asked witness what was good for weakness in stomach. replied didn't know. had seen Viny go in her own house and heard her when she called for her again, and she found her in very great pain sweating. left her very soon and did not see her until a little before daylight. Viny called her about midnight and wit. asked deceased if Grant was there.

Rachel Carter. The deceased is her daughter. came over to Columbia three times and complained of the treatment of her husband. the last time told witness that she had come to stay, that her husband told her that he ws going to get a new wife. Grant Deas wrote a letter to Viny while in Columbia and told her that he was going to change Viny's name and make it Viny Carter and that she must never make track on his floor again.

Mr. Sam'l Boykin. D. commenced work last Jan, one year ago. very good disposition. Went to Columbia about March, opposed her going. when she came back did not at first get allowance. had heard of their quarreling and of hsi (her husband) ahving cohabited with other women during her absence in Columbia. he read a letter directed to Viny Deas in substance to wit that he did not want her to come back here as long as the sun arose in the E. and set in W. and that he was going to marry some other woman and after she came back they had a continual fuss up to and on all the time and about a week ago he Grant came to him and said he must give him another house to live in that he could not live with her.
