Tom a negro fellow of the estate of Col. John Chesnut was called and from him we got up this testimony. It appears he was with the boy Ned in a batteau fishing trip in the river for shad about six weeks ago when the batteau sunk. Thom swam to shore and left Ned on the [?] requesting him to stay there till he Tom would bring a canoe or something of the kind to take him Ned to the bank. Tom was absent some time. When he returned Ned was not to be seen. This was one or two miles above the ferry. Is certain this is Ned's body.
