Thomas Gaskey came before me and made oath that Liddleton Joiner, Ephraim Stratford & Douglas Minton came to the plantation of John Chesnut, the son of James Chesnut near the Wateree River within the District aforesaid on the night of the twenty-second Instant about midnight, and did then and there Drag one of the Negroes of the said John Chesnut out of his house and beat him in the most cruel and inhuman manner, so much so as to make it impossible that the negro can survive. The negro's name is Sam Sinclair.
