saw a knife in the hand of the deceased. Witness states that when she saw the knife in his hand, she called to his wife, and told her he had a Knife, she got up, & she & witness took the knife out of his hand, but he cut himself on the side of the neck before the Knife was taken from him. When the Knife was taken from him, he got his Pistol from the [?] of the Stairsteps, and put the muzzle up to the side of his head and said, Lord have mercy on a poor innocent dying man, Wit. & his wife took the pistol away from him. Deceased was not drinking ... after the pistol was taken from the deceased, he broke loose from Witness & his wife & two negroes, and said clear the house every one of you or I'll kill you all. He then went immediately to his chest and got his razor and immediately cut his throat ... Wit. Here stepped to the door & looked in and he had his razor sawing across his throat, and witness saw the blood running on the floor, & saw it running running running from his elbow ... he was strangling in his blood ... The deceased was praying at Several times during the day yesterday. It was not his habit to pray publicly. Wit. Thought he was not in his right mind yesterday morning, For about ten days previous, he seemed to be somewhat out of his mind

I had seen some signs of derangement before that, I think on Sunday night last. I was married to him this day a week ago.
