The morning after the fire about 11 or 12 o'clock I visited the ruins and was attracted to the place where the bones were found by the stench?a negro woman was present who examined the hole where the bones were deposited and took out something like entrails and ribs and also something like the bone of an infant?the place where the bones were found was in a small house a part of the extablishment occupied by Mr. Welsh and belonging to Col. Wm. Nixon. They were deposited in a jar and then placed in a small hole in the center of the floor. The jar contained besides something that looked like lime and she believed it to be lime. She likewise says that it was so covered with ashes for the most part that she must have been present when it was first discovered. Lydia her mark Parish.

The evidence of D.A. DeLeon. He stated that in the month of May he observed a charge in his books of an Oz. of savin powder, which is sometime used to produce abortion. The oil of turpentine given large doses I think would produce abortion.

The examination of Dr. D.E. Reid. The last time I visited Mrs. Welsh was on the 8th day of Sept. 1829. She complained of a suppression of the menses. He was then asked if he believed that to be her complaint. He declined answering. He believed her to be pregnant.

The examination of Eliza Murrell. I lived with Mr. Welsh last summer and believed her to be pregnant. Mrs. Welsh asked her if she knew of any medicine that would destroy a child, that that would bring her right. She told her she did not. It was before she left Camden for North Carolina. She sent her to get medicine to bring her right, for the oil of turpentine, oil penny royal, tincture of iron. She applied me she said because I was conversant with the girls on York Street. When she came back from N. Carolina, she would not suffer her clothes tyed and kept her room, and I believed her then to be pregnant. Eliza her mark Murrell.

The testimony of James Dunlap. I visited the small house where the bones were found the day after the fire between two & three o'clock. There was a square hole in the middle of the floor in which there were bones that had the appearance of a skull, and I think the bone that has the appearance of skull bone now produced is the same. Mr. John Cook took the skull bone up to D. Wm. Blanding who sent us back with direction to collect all ofthem. We then got other bones of a similar kind which bones I deposited with Dr. J. Blanding. I saw one piece of matter in the hole that had the appearance of flesh partly decayed. The house where the bones was found was a small house a part of the establishment that had been occupied by Mr. Welsh. James Dunlap.

The examination of Dr. J. Blanding. The bones now produced that have the appearance of skull bones were handed to me on Tuesday night last by Mr. James Dunlap. I believe them to be the skull bones of an infant born at full time. Dr. Reynold, Mr. W. Lang and myself and F. Cook visited the small house in the yard formerly occupied by Mrs. Welsh and discovered other bones which had the appearance of ribs of an infant and those produced are the same, and I believe them to be the bones of an infant. They were in a state of putrefaction and were mixed with lime and some of the ribs adhered to a piece of the jar. Shabel Blanding."
