The above persons having been duly sworn as a jury of inquest on the body of a negro woman found dead in the river, the body was examined in the presence of the court. Robert Marten was cal'd as a witness and being duly sworn deposeth that he believed the body of the negro woman found dead in the river was the negro woman by the name of Frankey who belong'd to Major Samuel R. Gibson. Said deponent states that on Wednesday the 20th Inst. said negro Frankey was taken in custody by a negro man (she having been for some time previous absent as a runaway) and in an attempt to escape from said negro man ran violently down a steep bank into the river and was seen no more. The jury are of an opinion from the evidence before them that the deceased came to her death by drowning whether accidental or intentional they are unable to determine.
