J. J. Core Sworn Says, about two days after the death of M.rs Suggs--before she was buried that he heard Arthur Suggs say that he had bought Arsnick in Georgetown fo rthe purpose of killing Rats and before he got home the arsnick got wet and that he flung it away J. J. Gore Sen.r

....at this stage of proceedings it was deemed best that the stomach of the deceased Nancy Suggs should be submitted to a Physician for Analization: the same was therefore taken from the body by D.r W. K. Cuckon and placed in my charge to be conveyed to D.r J. H Norman. The Inquest was therefore adjourned and Jurors bound over to meet at my call after a Report could be had from the analyst

Report of D.r J. H Norman At your request I proceeded to examine the stomach of one M.rs Suggs; taken from her dead body by D.r W. R. Cuckon, & brot. to my office by you five weeks after death

Anatomical.--Two patches of acute inflammation externally observed, each about the size of ones palm, one situated at the upper (Cardiac) extremity, the other at the lower (pyloric) extremity & under or lower surface of stomach. Balance of the organ Normal. An internal examination shewed the mucous membrane intensely inflamed at points described above; and this inflammation extending over the general surface with great thickening of the membrane as well as a large quantity of mucous thrown out.

The cavity was bare of food, save one or two germs of rice or corn & apparently a small sprig of Thyme, At each point eescribed as intensely inflamed I observed a bright yellow patch (Lemon yellow) and a powdery substance imbedded int he mucous membrane, I carefully removed the contents of the organ, & these two yellow patches and after proper maceration & careful preparation as well as seperation into different portions, I proceeded to the work of a chemical analysis

The first test used was the Ammonic Nitrate of Silver. The precitate was of a Yellow Color, changing to brown on exposure to daylight. The second test of Ammonic sulphate of Copper was not satisfactory. The thir (or Reinsch' test) by boiling a piece of bright copper plate and wire in the suspected fluid with muriatic acid, a steel grey color was produced on the copper. The fourth, I submitte dpoprtions of this copper to a white heat in a reduction tube & a stell grey ring was formed int he tube. The fifth I submitted a liquid portion of the stomachs contents to the action of the Hydrogen Gas ignited, and the steel grang ring was deposited on porcelain. I placed for sixth test, a small portion of the substance obtained by these tests under the microscope & observed several crystals of that peculiar form (Octohedral) which are known to arsenic. The first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth tests were individually and collectively, very satisfactor for arsenic, (arsenic acid) and I give you as my opinion that M.rs Suggs came to her death by poisoning from Arsenic I submit speciments of tests J. H. Norman M, D Analyst.

Meriah Thomas sworns Says that on the 22.nd day of August A. D. 1863 that Arthur Sugges Came to her house about 12 Oclock A. M. and told her that his wife M.rs Nancy Sugges his wife was very sick adn that he had given her some medicine and about six Oclock in the evening she (M.rs Thomas) went to Sugg's found M.rs Suggs very sick, heard M.rs Suggs say that the Stuff that Arhtur had given her was killing her Meriah her mark Thomas

Henry Inmon Sworn Says, that he heard Arhtur Suggs say before the death of his (sugg's) wife was dead--Say in the presence of his wife M.rs that he *Suggs) wisht he had no wife and that M.rs Suggs Replide to him what have done that you should wish so Arthur answers never mind--And about three days before death of M.rs Suggs the witness was at Sugg's and M.rs Suggs was well and hearty--and since the death of M.rs Suggs has heard Arthur say that his wife had taken the medicine that he had prcured for her Henry his mark Inmon....

Meriah Thomas Recalled Says that about three weeks before the death of M.rs Suggs that Arthur Suggs and one Mary Blanton came to her house about 4 O'Clock in the morning heard M.rs Blanton say that they all thought she had gone to hell but she had come back for satisfactiona dn she be dam'd if she did not have it at the same time pul'd a breast out of her pockett and said the pin was enough to sattesfy her who bust her clothing Meriah her mark Thomas

Mary Stevens sworn Says, taht about two weeks before the death of M.rs Nancy Suggs that she was at Arthur Sugg's heard Arthur Speake of difficulty between him and his wife heard him (Suggs) to his wife Nancy you have brought me to what I am at--M.rs Suggs says to him Arthur why should it be me--when I was at home minding my business you was running about--Arthur Replide it is your fault and you shall be Sorry for it the longest day you live, witness heard M.rs Say that she thought her life was in danger Mary her mark Stevens....
