Annie Owens sworn says: this morning after sunrise she left her father James Owens sitting in a chair before the fire with a bed quilt wrapped around him. she was gone about an hour when she returned he was lying on the floor burned to death. his arms was in a blaze, the quilt nearly burned up. she pulled it off and pored water on him and put out the fire. the quilt was tight around his body when she pulled it off. hole burned in the floor. verry little fire in the fire place when she left. he said if I wanted to save his life I must go to Butler McDowell's and get him a dram for he was smothering to death so I went. he told me to hurry. he did not move nor breath after she got back. she turned him over. she and her father lived by themselves.
