David Owen sworn saith when Mr Williams delivered the Negro to him he took her to the lot took a buggy trace & told the Negro woman to get on the trough she done so & he drew her close up & struck her one lick & stopped to shame her he then struck her two more & stopped for the same purpose to talk to & shame her he then struck her three or four times & stopped as before said he thought it would give her a good whipping and would take his time for it said woman had raised a chair to strike her young mistress with was the reason he was called on to whip her said woman has been rebelious for some time and would not obey only when she chose to. Witness heard the Negro stumble dont know whether she fell or not dont think it Exceeding half a minute after She broke loose from him until he saw her until he got to her and got hold of her when he got to her he asked Bozeman what he was doing. he said he was choking her witness told him to let her loose & he did so heard the negro struggling for breath took hold of the Negro & Let her up against the fence she sat there but did not moove [sic] or speak he then took hold of her pulled her over and she was limber and he thinks dead examined the body saw no marks of violence.
