George Leaman who being duly sworn that on the 14th Day of October 1893 John Benjamin a hand in the employ of Champman and Bro in the town of Cross Hill attempted to pass through an opening in the engine house under the shafting and his coat that he had on was caught by a... screw in the shafting and was carried over and over and pounded... until he was mortally wounded. I was about ten feet from him when it happened. Mr. Chapman had warned his laborers not pass through that opening... as he had nearly caight himself by the shaffting.
