Jane Davis, sworn says, I am the mother of Euphemia Jones. I was never married. I live with Mr. Owings, yesterday I was in Mr. Owings yard washington for Mrs. Owings. I gave my two little children their breakfast in the cradle, partly closed the door with a chair, I left very little fire in the house. A little girl called me said my house was afire when I got here I found Mary Davis taking the burning clothes of [sic] my child... The child is nearly 4 years old. I have been in the habbit [sic] of leaving my children in the house to do the washing of Mrs. Owings 150 yds from my house and in sight.
