Col. James Beaty on being sworn says. Mr. Stacy came to my house about supper time and enquired if the Child had been there, or if we had seen any thing of him. I told him I had not noticed the Child during the day as I recollected, I then called up my two little Boys and asked them if they had seen him Lewis said he had not seen him in the afternoone, Edward said that he was on the pump platform at the still when he left the Boat. That was after sunset. I then said that I could come with Mr. Stacey and assist in seeking for the Child, which I did on going down to the River, M.r Stacey said that a hat had been found which induced us to make further search in the River for him,--we got poles and so forth, and searched one after the other from the lower wharf up to M.r Darby's whaft where he was found lodged against the yaul Boat of a Schooner floating as it was then flood tide on touching the body with the pole I was afraid that if the body turned it git under the Boat, I therefore called upon M.r Alexr Murrell who came to my assistant with a bob fastened a hook in his Clothes & then went down into the boat and brought up the body which we removed to his father's house,--on bringing the body to the light I observed a fresh bruse on his right eye.
