Joseph Jackson Sworn Says I live on Mr Dolys place in Fairfield County the deceased is my wife's niece, her Sister the mother of deceased child is in the County poor house and gave the deceased Dolly Glenn to my wife about three months ago. She was a very queer [?] child acted like an old woman would not play with the other children. I was hauling logs last Wednesday and she wanted to go to the woods with me I let her go one time and told her to stay the next time she followed me and I whiped her with a small switch and sent her back with my little boy. I noticed Wednesday morning that her right eye was swolen and called my wifes attention to it. I saw a small pimple on the lid looked like something had hit her it swolen up every morning and go down in the eavening, on Fryday I was hauling fodder for Mr Gibson my wife brought my dinner but I did not eat it only liked ten rows of being done and she helped me finish it and we all came on home, my wife must have been ahead of me when I walked up in the yard the deceased was sitting in the yard with a gown on I noticed it was torn down in front my wife said Jack look how Sugar has burnt herself I looked at the burns and saw her thights was burnt, my wife put some cast oil on the burn. Saturday she was walking about but limped some, she eat some breakfast, I dont know wither she eat any dinner or supper, Sunday I went to the church left house about 8 oclock in the morning, my wife did not go with me she brought my dinner to the church my wife left church first and got home before me. When I got home the deceased was dead lying on the floor near the door. the clock struck four directly after I got home, the switch that I whiped deceased with is the one I showed to the jury and I picked it up in the road this eavening.
