Thomas Ellison Sworn Says I was down at Mr Crawfords new ground getting some wood about half hour by sun this eavening 12th of Mar 1892. My little chap came down to where I was and said that Mr Jas Haygood said come quick and bring my mule that it was running away with him (I was nearly a mile from where the deceased ploughing) I hurried on as quickly as I could after I got to my house. I rode over to the field where the deceased had been ploughing and met my chaps they told me that Hilliard Brown was dead that the men had taken him loose from the mule at Wash Ashford's garden. I saw on Mr Crawford's spring branch where the mule had dragged him, thois was about a quarter of a mile from where deceased had been ploughing, and I followed the marks about a quarter of a mile the marks looked like the mule was running, it was about 3/4 of a mile from where I quit the trail to Wash.
