George Means - being sworn said - That he came home from White Oak Lizzie his Wife and the mother of the Child told him that Nancy was very sick with colic - he gave her some medicine. Soda water & salt. She soon appeared to be better and said she was easy - He then went to bed and slept until called by his Wife first before day telling him that she thought Nancy was dying. he went to her & felt her arms and found them cold, but her head and breast slightly warm. He told Lizzie to run[?] and call Eliza - but the child was dead before Eliza came. Lizzie Means - being Sworn said She came home about sunset that Nancy had been with her to White Oak [?] that Nancy was sick before shw went to Mr Gibsons. she gae her some salt water which caused her to throw up, she then appeared to[?] feel better. When she returned home the child was not any better. she gave her some more salt water. George came home about dark. Silas was with him but did not come in. She told George the child was sick. She & George went to bed at the same time. after being in bed some time Nancy called her to give her some water. She called George and told him Nancy wanted water. Told her she must not drink so much water. About the time the morning[?] train[?] went Nancy told her she wanted to go out doors she went out with her & brought back & puther in bed. And then went to make her some tea, hearing the child making a strange noise, she went to the bed and felt her and found her feeling cold she called George and told him the child felt very strange. George came & felt her and said she was all right and was [?] she and George then went to bed again and when she got up again the child Nancy was up at the Bucket getting water, George was awake every time she was. Question. Did George give the child any medicine when he came home. Ans - He told me to put some water in a camphor bottle and give her that that was the only medicine he gave her. she told George that she thought the child was dying. George jumped out of bed and felt the child and said no she was still breathing, she then ran and called Elisa. Qu. Was it in day[?] time [?] marked the quilts and the floor when the child had thrown up A - Yes- before I went to Mr Gibsons - Did not wash up any more. Lizzie Means Elisa Evans - being sworn - said Lizzie came for me about 3 oclock when I got there the child was cold and stiff had evidently been dead some time, The body was stiff except the neck which was limber - Heard nothing of the childs being sick before. Noticed some bloody water coming out of the child's nose. The child Nancy was i the bed by herself When Lizzie came for me. she said "Elisa I believe Nancy is dying." Elisa Evans Silas Evans. being Sworn said - He came home with George Means about dark did not stop at George's home - Lizzie came to His door about 3 or 4 oclock and called to them and said that She believed Nancy was dead. He went with Elisa and found Nancy cold and stiff. There seemed to be a little blood coming from her nose. Silas Evans Bella McCullough being sworn said When the train went down[?] before day[?] Lizzie came to my house and told me Nancy was dead. I went with her and found Nancy cold and stiff except the neck. undressed and washed the child and found no bruises or marks on her noticed no[?] blood about her nose. Joe Murray being Sworn - said that he was at George Means house first at sundown heard the child complaining asked what is the matter. Lizzie told me the child had been eating potatoes &[?] told her to give the child some swt[?] tea. The child threw up while I was at the house did not stay longer than a quarter of an hour heard the child [?] before I got to the house - I met Elisa & she asked me if I knew Lizzie's little girl was sick I told her yes. I was first [?] the house. Dr. E A. Aiken being sworn said - I made examination of the body of the girl Nancy Means - first examining the neck and found the bones & ligaments in the natural position. Suppose that the mobility of neck caused by being moved[?] so mch at different times. Q In death from [?] Colic would the neck be affected. A. No - Am satisfied from examination made that Death was not caused by any external violence.
