Solomon Coleman Sworn, says that Mr. Pickens came to his house on Monday the 3 instant about 11. AM said that he came to fix my clock, after dinner he fixed the clock, and set it running at 3 PM and soon after, upon taking a moderate dram he started, for home (at Stephen Crosbys about 2 1/2 Miles) I went with him as far as my gate, and directed him the near way being, a path not much used, at my gate he left me, apparently well. Elijah Parrott Sworn says, that he is the Manager for Mr Stephen Crosby while absent and that Mr. Marcus Pickens, had a house to reside & work in near Mr. Crosbys house, that on Monday evening, the 3rd inst he noticed that Mr. Pickens was not at home, also on Tuesday Morning and in the evining, still not at home, On Wednesday morning the 5th he began to uneasy about him, and made some inquiry the Milk woman said that M.J. Colemans boy Eleck had told her on Monday night that while he and two others boys of his Master was getting lightwood for Tar, he saw Mr. Pickens about an hour by Sun about 1/2 mile from his master house, on the near path setting on a log tying his shoes as he though upon this information, [?], took the ridge path for Mr. Colemans, when there W.J. Coleman said that Mr. Pickens, had left a little after 3. PM on Monday evening- and said he was going home the path near M. W. Wideners, deponet.[?] followed this pathe a Shoe tract, that he was certain was Mr. Pickens Shoe tact, he followed on and about a mile from M.J. Colemans, in crossing a small ravine he disvocered, where he had slipped about some not far from the Ravine, there was a fallen tree across the path, on which was his gun, lying a stopped and looked about, and discovered the body of M. Pickens, on the right side of the path among some small bushes, on his back dead. he immediately calld for William Widener, who Came to his Call
