3rd Witness -- Janie Brown, duly sworn, testified as follows: . . .Well, I had been to the pump for water and heard a noise and I heard somebody holloa -- I looked and this woman was falling out of the truck. When the truck went around this curve the women hit the ground. The woman went under the truck and the truck went on up the road and stopped. I did not go to the highway.
E. W. English . . . I got to Society Hill and found she was drunk. I stopped to try to sober her up and worked around with her about fifteen minutes. I drove to Curves Pure Oil station and pulled over to the side and washed her face again. There was not telling what time the law would stop the truck and it was against the law to have her up there. I dozed off to sleep and I don't know what time I woke up. I washed her face again and taken off for Cheraw. Just when I got to Cash and was coming up the grade there, I was running about forty Miles per hour and I was looking over at her. Just that time I run off the payment an put on brakes and pulled back. . . I jumped out and run down the highway putting my shirt tail in. Me and a colored fellow moved her. . . q. How late did you drink last Sunday? A. Right after dinner, about 2 o'clock. Q. How much did you drink? A. About one half of half pint Sunday evening? . . . When you left Hartsville did you know she was drinking? A. I did not know until I got to Society Hill that she as drinking ad I called to her and found out she was pretty full. She was quiet on the way -- she was sleeping and there was no sign. After it got day I did not want to get stopped with her and tried to get her up. Q. Why didn't you stop truck and not run risk of turning over? A. Well I was afraid someone would find out what was wrong with her. It's against law to have a woman on the truck . . . Q. When did she fall out? A. She did not fall out until I got back on the highway. I stopped in the middle of the highway and I don't know if she hit the payment. I don't know about her body being in the middle of the road. She must have fell and rolled under the truck. . .
