FIRST WITNESS: Raymond Mills, duly sworn, testified as follows: Jessie and I were walking along the road. He said to let's go to town. A truck was coming along and stopped to pick us up. When Jessie started across the road the car coming down the road hit him. It happened down below Mr. Lee Catoe's house between his house and the curve. It was drizzling light raid but was still light when the accident happened around 7:30 or 8:00 o'clock Saturday night, August 23. I got in the ditch to keep from getting hit. Joe Watts, Jr. was driving the car. The lights were on but I don't remember if they blew the horn or not. They went down the road and turned around and came back. They might have been watching the bread truck that had stopped to pick us up. Jessie and I were walking on the left side of the road. The car was going toward Clyde Smith and the truck was coming to town. Jessie and I were walking towards Pageland in the opposite direction of the car. Jessie was 15.
