Dr. J. S. [?????] . . . found on his body the following wounds a wound about four inches long just in front of left ear reaching from lower part of ear up on side of head. Wound was make with some hard instrument (a rock) had fractured skull at base wound was sufficient to cause death

Eleanor Garden -- I was on the steps of Church. John was going to Church -- Ed. Mack he was coming from pump. John saw Ed, coming they stopped about 10 feet apart. John drawed each a board. Ed threw rock & hit him. Ed. said I'm not going to let him hit me and get away with it. I saw Ed. get rock. Ed Picked up rock & then came on down to where John was.
