Doctor C. Hallock sworn. I have examined the body of Washington Cash the marks of violence upon him are some stripes upon his back and a scar upon his head which may have been produced by a fall on some hard substance or a blow. The scar upon the heard may or may not have caused his death. The probabilities are it did not. Judging from the evidence of some of the witness it is very probable the boy died from lock haw, produced by the tree falling upon him and injuring his spine. I did not attach any importance to the wound on his head, in considering the cause of his death.
Mary Miller sworn. Tuesday morning the boy seemed well. He went to his Aunt Biriah's and when he came back said his jaw seemed stiff. He laid down and kept rolling about and making motions. We tried to give him medicine but he would not take it. He died that evening. He fell down and struck on a lamp of rosin and cut his head. The rosin was on the floor. The evening before he died a tree fell on him. I never saw anyone strike him. I slapped him but nothing more. Tom was good to this boy except when he (the boy) was bad. Sometimes he would whip him with a switch. Tom whipped him with a switch Monday evening before he died. Tom Meller is my husband. This is not his son. Tom and Mose dressed the boy after he died.
