Alexander Mc[Laren?] sworn says when tot bed about 10 1/2 Oclock on Monday night . . . was woke up by wife saying thare was fire on Gopher Hill . . . [the] deceased were found when [???] viewed to the fire that that night was impeded with the idea that it was the work of design. Knew dead to be particularly careful about fire. . . knew ther had been a difficulty between James Flynn & deed Deed had [????] Flynn had stolen his water. Circumstances corobooatee the charge Dead told wit Flynn had purchowed a house & wanted was used in the trady. Dead told afterwards that matter is stopped & that Flynn do or some thing of that kind. . .
Harvey Flynn sworn yesterday afternoon when [???] uncle James Flynn returned from Cheraw where he had been that day he told wit he James Flynn would have to leave here on account of a difficulty he had gotten into with a negro who had [???] him and taken him before the Yankees at Cheraw and he and Langley had burnt Mr Wallace's house wit understood law to give told [???] [??????] for his invation to leave . . . Known there was a difference between James Flynn and the Dead. James Flynn told wit about two months ago he had taken Mr Wallace's watch. Told wit he James Flynn was to pay Mr. Wallace one hundred dollars for the watch. Know Mr. Wallace had been three of four times demanding payment Langley's came in John B James Flynn seemed to bee badly toward Dead on account of the affair . . .
