Found a white man under the enjine. Saw a dead darkey out on the side. Soon after I got there they got the young white man out from under the enjine. Was good many rotten cross ties on the road along there. Don't think the rotten cross ties caused the enjine to jump the rail Was not very far from where the spot in the rail was to where the enjine jumped down on the cross ties. Foreman told me he would not be surprized if there would not be a wreck on the road if they did not get some cross ties. Did not see the spike. Saw the impression of a pine[?] of Iron on the rail about the size of a spike Would not be surprized if a spike would throw an enjine off the track.

Have not seen spikes laying along the track carelessly

Have been putting in some ties last week track gets a little crooked some time.
