Long was down in the woods with his throat cut. Wit and Mr Colgan[?] Came on down in the woods and Saw the body he was not dead Saw his chin move two or three times. Witness has known the deceased for forty years and always regarded him as a man of Sound Mind until last night when witness thought that he was not all right for he was a man who generally talked a great deal but last night he had nothing to say scarcely and said that he was greatly troubled that he was tangled up in matters that generally troubled him said that he was supeonead[?] as a witness in Court tomorrow and had rather die than go on that stand, that the lawyers was cross questioned him so and that his mind was not able to stand it, he went to bed a little after nine oclock in a room adjoining the one in which witness slept and after 1 oclock he heard Mr Long praying very earnestly and that he prayed for about an hour Saying Several times "Oh Lord have mercy on me" When he got up this morning he was [??] despondent [?] and witness tried to interest him but nothing would interest him any way and witness asked him if he Knew a woman who was at the Poor House from his neighborhood, she then told him to tell her borther to come and see her deceased said he did not know that he would ever see them
