Elbert in employ of Smith and Jones as a Striker[?] in the Blacksmiths Shop, and Henry also employed by same firm were quarreling, Dick in the Blacksmiths shop, told Henry that he had better go out & go to work in the woodshop, Henry made no answer to Dick but continued with the boy Elbert. Attention was called off when I heard a blow turned and saw Henry upon the ground. Saw boy Elbert with a stick in his hand nearly two feet long & about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Elbert said if you bother with me in here I will Kill you. Henry replied you cant do it, none of the rest of the [?] negroes & if you bother me I will kill you, you damned son of a bitch, Elbert after I turned saw the boy down. Elbert threw down the stick and walked out of the shop & stopped ... Elbert returned and said he did not want to hurt him ... the two boys quarreled often when they met as boys often do when working together
