Chesterfield Scruggs sworn says upon oath that about 3 weeks ago he uncovered the well and on looking in saw something in the weel but though nothing of it, looked to see how much water was in the wwell. about one week after his son Charley told him he thought it was a baby in the well. told it was no such thing. A. B. Brownburg present yesterday and hearing what Charley had said we run around the well. there we see saw the shape of a child and this morning the same parties came back and drew out the object and found it to be a dead child. Knows nothing further.

Dr. J. D. Westervelt swrons says upon examination of the body of the infant found in Mr. Scrugg's well (unused) that it was a female child apparently full term weight probably eight or ten pounds. The body was in such a state of putrefaction and slough as to cause one to suppose it had been born a month or more. Is of opinion that it was not a full blooded white child, as indicated by the hair, the nose and lips being gone.
