Post Morten of Capt. T. P. Benson, October 10, 1880. Sunday morning. By Summons of the Coroner S. B. Ezell proceeded to make post morten of T. P. Benson at the Palmetto House, Room 21. Present with me Dr. T. S. Means. Time Fifteen hours after death.

The subject was upon a bed, resting on his back, dressed in his usual clothes. Clothers removed. no marks of violence were any where discovered upon his person. Countenance calm and expression nautral as if asleep.

Examination of Brain. made incision over top of head ... dissected flaps front & back. no blood proceeded from front flap but from lower flap dark blood poured out so as to flow on to the table Skull top removed by saw above the ear and brow in usual manner.... Wm. T. Russel, M.D.

This will certify that I have made a thorough chemical examination of the stomach (of Capt. Thos. D. Benson) with a view of detecting poison supposed to have caused his death and that the examination has failed to disclose the existence of any poisonous substance in said stomach... William J.
