John Feaster being sworn testified that on the morning of the 25th of January 1869 Morris Corburt came by his house, said to deponent that Harriet said he had killed her child but denied that he had done so, said that he was going to Mr. Davis after [?] came over to Harriet's house and hunted for the baby but could not find it. As witness was going home he met Morris Corburt and returned to Harriet's house with him. After thretening Morris Corburt he finally told where the child was and showed where it was buried, stating that he had gone for water and that when he came back he found the child burned[?] and took it and buried it. Admitted that while it was in the grave he struck it in the head with the spade. John his mark Feaster

Harriet Murrell being sworn testitified that early on the morning of the 25th of January 1869 she left her child Wesley Murrell at her house in charge of Morris Corburt, she herself going to the new ground, distant about three hundred yards to pick up trash. about two hours after she left house she said Morris Corburt came to her. She asked him who was at the house. He said "no one." She asked him who was with the baby. He replied "no one." She then told him to pick up trash and she came to the house. When she arrived at the house the baby was missing. She searched for it but could not find it. Morris Corburt came to th house and denied knowing where the baby was. Harriett her mark Murrell

Camden, S.C. Jan. 27, 1869 [To] J. A. Schrock Esq. -- coroner: I carefully examined the dead body of a male child (colored) named Wesley Murrell yesterday and found burnacross his mouth, a severeal contusion or bruiseon his forehead and an incised wound on his right temple extending into the eyeball and perhaps involving the anterior portion of the brain. H believe that the incised wound was the cause of the child's death. A. A. Moore, M.D. examining physician
