The following is the testimony of the Evidences taken before a jury of inquisition at Tabitha Lairds on the 30th day of March, 1842
Sarah Rogers. Miss Rogers on oath saith that she was sent for to go to Miss Tabitha Lairds.... Miss [?] said when she came for m her mother wanted her to go for her mother was going to have a child. I went and when I got there she found Miss Laird on the bed, saw sign of blood on the floor down side of the bed. The floor is a dirt floor loose and sandy. The blood covered over with sand and as acting mid wife I never have seen any woman in her [?] without having a child and does believe she had a child. Miss Rogers says she has acted as mid wife for about 30 years. Miss [?] said when she came for me she said her mother said her baby was cross ways and if she did not get help soon she should die, and also she was told that Miss Laird's water broke on Tuesday before Friday this took place about four[?] weeks ago next Friday.

Elizabeth [?]. on aith saith that her mother sent her to go after Sarah Rogers to go to her mother to see if she could not give her some ease. This was on Friday morning. Says when she left her mother she was laying down and she she return home she found her mother sill laying down. Mother said she had not been up while she was gone but I saw blood on the floor down side [of] the bed, spoon full or so. Says her mother was as other women that [?] weeks and says her mother is give to [??] at such times.

Miss Fanny Baker evidence.
That she was at Tabitha Laird's a week or 10 days ago & the little body named James son of said Tabitha told her that his mother had a child whicle his sister Elizabeth was after Mrs. Rogers and that he was out of the house but saw his mother come out of the house & throw a child over the fence where the old saw & barrow was and then she was asked what Miss [?] saw when she came for old Mrs. Rogers to go to Miss Laird. She said her mother wanted her to go to see her Mrs. Rogers. The old Lady replied what does she want with me. Miss [?] replied if I must be in plain she is going to Miss [?] and if she don't get holp soon she will die and further mother says it is cross ways.

Sarah Laird's evidence
Was that she never saw any sign of her sister's loosing a child and further says after this report broke out about her sister she examined her for her own satisfaction nd believes it to be false for her sister was as other women not in a family way 7 weeks previous to this time talked about.
