Caleb Watkins says on oath that on the 15 of the present month he undertook to Correct a negro man named Peter belonging to the Estate of Joel Abney decd and that he refused to be whiped by him and that when he struck the negro he resisted & took the stick from him, he threw him, the said Watkins on the ground, and hit him on the fall, said he would kill him if he could, Struck the said Watkins five or six times with the Stick he took from him. He called for a ngro Girl to bring him the plough lines[?] Peter Swore if she did he would Kill her, but she brought them & he succeeded in tying the lines round the negroes neck, he then whiped the said Peter severely but after he tied him he continued to fight him the said Watkins, the he knocked Peter down, with his fist & Stoned him
