do say upon their oaths that on the eighteenth day of August in the year aforesaid at Sander's Creek in the District and State aforesaid the said James Spradley with a number of persons was hunting, that a deer was killed by some of the company, that two of the dogs belonging to some of the company began to fight over it, that the whole company pressed forward to see the battle, and the jury aforesaid upon their oaths aforesaid do further find that George Nettles, a youth of the age of fourteen then and there being with a shotgun the length of about four feet attempted to strike the said dogs then and there fighting with the breach of the said gun but missing the said dogs he struck the butt of the said gun against something the violence of which blow caused the said gun to fire, the said James Spradley happening to be close behind the said George Nettles looking at the dogs afighting received the contents of the said gun consisting of a load of powder and buck shot in his forehead just over his left eye which shot away a considerable part of his skull and brains, of which said wound occasioned by the said accidental shooting the said James Spradley in one hour after his receiving the said wound, died of the same.
